Macau, Jersey, Iceland, Liechtenstein and Gibraltar top the ranking of countries with the world’s fastest internet elaborated by cable.co.uk, a UK-based service for comparing broadband, TV, landline and mobile packages. All of them, with the exception of Macau, are situated in Western Europe. They are all very small or island nations, and the study points out that it is obviously much easier to roll out FTTP full fibre broadband and 5G mobile internet to a smaller population and/or across a smaller area.
Luxembourg is in 8th place. Among its neighbouring countries, France ranks 10th, Belgium 24th and Germany 33rd.
The overall study covers 220 countries and territories. cable.co.uk reports that the global average speed continues rising fast. In 2021, the global average speed rose by 20%.
