Dense woodlands criss-crossed by rushing streams, extraordinary biotopes with towering sandstone formations, narrow rocky ravines, mysterious caves and gorges and an amazing variety of plants and trees: Mullerthal definitely deserves a visit from anyone coming to Luxembourg.
The best way of exploring the region is probably by foot. The region offers a wide variety of sign-posted hiking paths, including the award-winning 112-kilometre Mullerthal Trail and the 9 cross-border paths between neighbouring Germany and Luxembourg of NaturWanderPark delux.
Many paths lead to Echternach, Luxembourg’s oldest town that is home to the Hopping Procession on Whit Tuesday that has been awarded UNESCO World Cultural Heritage status. Mullerthal visitors should also take the opportunity to discover the Beaufort and Larochette castles and Echternach Abbey with its illuminated books.
The UNESCO Global Geopark label is a recognition of Mullerthal as one of the most spectacular sandstone landscapes in Western Europe.
